Annual Ethics Training

Ethics Training is mandatory for all University of Illinois employees, as defined in the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act (5 ILCS 430). The University develops and administers the program under the guidance of the Inspector General (IG), who is responsible for determining training frequency and standards, and has provided the public universities with several quotes we are required to include in our programs. The training must be conducted and required of employees on an annual basis - a timeline established by the IG through the authority granted within the Ethics Act. Communications regarding training requirements will continue to be made through official University e-mail accounts.

All University employees must complete ethics training each calendar year, as designated by their employee classification, in one of the following formats: 

Online Ethics Training

WHO: All permanent employees (excluding medical resident, undergraduate student and extra help employees)

WHEN: All Campuses: October 1 - October 30

The online training window has now closed as of 10/30/13.

Ethics Training for Seasonal and Temporary Employees

WHO: Undergraduate employees, extra help workers and medical residents

WHEN: Ongoing through December 31st

Ethics Classroom Training

WHO: This option is restricted to individuals who are unable to use a computer or do not have access to a machine through their unit or the campus computer labs.

WHEN: Ongoing through December 31st (based on scheduling with the University Ethics Office); typically held in the spring and early fall.

Ethics New Hire Orientation 

WHO: Any employees newly hired to the University.

WHEN: A New Hire Orientation will be completed as a task on the Nessie New Hire Checklist. The State Officials and Employees Ethics Act requires training within the first 30 days of employment.
