University Ethics and Compliance Office

The University Ethics and Compliance Office supports University of Illinois campuses and administration in fulfilling their mission in an environment based on ethical behavior and compliance with applicable laws, rules, and guidelines. The University Ethics and Compliance Office is the designated liaison to receive and, as necessary, coordinate and/or refer the investigation of fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, misconduct, or other violations of applicable laws, rules, or guidelines.

The Statement of Economic Interests and the Supplemental Statement of Interests forms are due to their respective offices today, May 1, 2015.

The fines associated with late filing of the Statement of Economic Interests form with the Office of the Secretary of State are as follows:

May 2nd - 15thA flat $15 fine will be assessed to all late filers by the Secretary of State.

May 16th through filing A rate of $100/day, in addition to the flat $15 filing penalty, will be assessed until the completed form is received by the Office of the Secretary of State.

ALL COMPLETED STATEMENT OF ECONOMIC INTERESTS FORMS MUST BE MAILED DIRECTLY TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE.

 

Cynthia Herrera Lindstrom, UIC's Chief Information Officer and Executive Director, Academic Computing and Communications Center, has been designated as the HIPAA Privacy and Security Official for the entire University of Illinois.

HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, assures the privacy and security of health information held or transmitted by the University in support of its HIPAA covered functions and activities.

What Does this Mean?

Ms. Herrera Lindstrom leads the University’s HIPAA Privacy and Security compliance efforts.  Her HIPAA responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring health care components are properly identified and monitoring their compliance with HIPAA’s Privacy and Security Rules.
  • Serving as a compliance resource to the University’s health care components.
  • Developing and maintaining HIPAA training and maintaining related records.
  • Establishing and maintaining security safeguards involving protected health information in electronic form.
  • Addressing complaints concerning the University’s compliance with HIPAA’s Privacy and Security Rules.
