Demonstrate impartiality and fairness
People have a fundamental right to be treated fairly. Students want to be graded fairly on their classwork; employees want to be evaluated fairly; athletes want to have a fair chance at succeeding in competition; and, vendors want to have their proposals evaluated fairly against those of other bidders.
When people know they are being treated fairly, they will strive to perform their best. They will also trust the policies and procedures designed to resolve problems, and are more likely to report situations that may detract from their full participation in our community. Finally, those subject to corrective action will be much more likely to accept and learn if they know the resolution process is fair and impartial.
